Carnegie Names ‘Community Engagement’ Colleges

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is today designating 115 colleges and universities as meeting the requirements for its “community engagement” classification. The institutions join 196 institutions identified in the 2006 and 2008 selection process.

What is the Community Engagement Classification?
Carnegie defines Community Engagement as “the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.”
